As many of you know, we changed the locks in April in order to better control access to the building once we closed it to public use. In July, we moved to allowing certain employees and essential volunteers access to the building. However, the building is still closed to general use.

In order for those employees and essential volunteers to work safely, any access of the building needs to be announced and preferably cleared ahead of time. In order to coordinate cleaning/airing out areas that have been used, and to allow for those employees and essential volunteers who are maintaining quarantine standards to be made aware, please notify the administrator if you are going to be in the building.  Please email the date, times, and number of people who will be in the building (approx) to

This applies to all use, including repairs and installations. Please understand, entering the building and using any of the facilities without letting anyone know puts any employee and volunteer who enter afterwards at risk.  Thank you for your assistance and understanding with this.

Sunday, Aug. 30th. Back Pack Blessing

Hey you all!!!!  Yes, Everybody. All ages – Backpack Blessing – in these uncertain times it’s just as important as ever to learn about and acknowledge traditions, and how they change through time. Usually, we’d be gathering school supplies and inviting friends to church to experience our unique and exciting Blessings of the Back Packs. This service usually happens just prior to the start of the school year each fall. This year our Blessing will be done virtually This means…

EVERYBODY – this coming Sunday, please bring with you to virtual service –  backpack, diaper bag, purse, work bag, briefcase, computer sleeve, or anything else you may be carrying with you as you enter into a new year of learning. This isn’t JUST for kids heading to school. Everyone has something to celebrate. Come send blessings over all of our students this year at Sunday service, Aug 30th, virtually this SUNDAY!!!!

Sunday, after service, from 1-3, Rev. Hannah and I will be at the church to pass out our 2020 Back Pack charm and a cold treat. Please come by, masked, and observing social distancing anytime between 1-3 to pick up your 2020 “charm”. I’ll be sitting or waiting on the church front porch, you can’t miss us! You don’t even need to get out of your car.  If you’d prefer, I’ll come to you.

Hugs all, stay well, and be safe!

(tip – while on the site on a PC it’s easier to use the arrow directional keys for navigation)

Dear UUCC Family & Friends,

What a blessing it is to embark on another year together. Through all of the upheaval of life these days, we are still gathering as a community to do our best to be human together. While some things will remain blessedly constant, others will need to shift and change in response to the world we inhabit. Our Board has determined that our worship and Sunday faith development programming will remain virtual through the end of January 2021. That decision will be revisited in December.

This past spring, we worked hard to shift the operations, programming, and worship life of this congregation to virtual formats. Some of those shifts are sustainable longer-term while others need to be adjusted for the coming year.

Starting in September, we’re going to focus our time and energy on equipping our community to do the work of spiritual exploration that builds a foundation for hope, compassionate service, and action whenever and however it fits into your lives! Whether it’s around the kitchen table with your family, in the backyard with your friends, over Zoom with just about anybody, or even alone on a hike in the mountains, our goal is to invite you into a deeper conversation about how we can engage with life’s biggest questions right now (without adding lots of screen time). This will include a variety of engagement opportunities!

Every month, we’ll send out a packet of spiritual exploration activities, journal prompts, discussion questions, art activities, and resources. These packets will reflect our monthly themes from Soul Matters. If you want to tackle things at your own pace, you can look at the whole packet at your leisure. If you’d like to work through a piece each week with other folks from the congregation, you can sign up on Padlet (more details next week!) to get those activities and then show each other what you’ve been up to with comments and photos! These packets will be available electronically, but you can also click here to request a paper copy be mailed to you each month.

Every week, we’ll dive deeper into a question that will help us wrestle with our theme. We’ll explore these centering questions in a variety of ways, including through a story published on our Facebook page on Tuesdays, a podcast that will come out on Fridays, and our worship service on Sunday mornings (including an opportunity to dive deeper into the question with a breakout group at the end of service).

This September, our theme will be Renewal, and here are the questions we’ll be exploring together:

  1. How are you renewing your commitment to democracy and the democratic process this fall?

  2. How can our shared past be a source of renewal without defining us?

  3. How might we renew our relationships with our community partners as part of our “new normal”?

  4. How can the work of atonement refocus and realign our priorities?

We are excited to embark on this journey together!

Together in hope, faith, and action,

Mary Scherden, Director of Faith Development & Rev. Hannah Villnave, Minister

Church Announcements
August 30 through September 5 is UU’s Family Promise rotation week.  The families are being housed in Red Lion Inn, and they need help with meals.  Because of the number of people, four adults, four teenagers and three younger ones and the work hours, Carol and I think it is easier for us to provide meal cards rather than taking them meals. Other churches have done this.  All families have transportation.

Please send a donation to Cheyenne’s FP headquarter housed at Grace Methodist Church:

       Family Promise, Morgan Gray, Director
       2950 Spruce Drive
       Cheyenne, WY 82001

Thank you for any support you can provide and for the support UU members and friends have provided through the years.

If you have any questions, feel free to call me at (305) 393-1505.

Juntos is calling for voices!
In an effort to make representation on the LCSD#1 School Board more equitable to all areas of Cheyenne, Juntos has a proposal before the Board requesting that the members consist of both at-large and Triad representation (South, East, Central) in order to better represent the diversity of Cheyenne.

“The resolution has been put to a 45-day review, and we need all of you to submit a comment in favor of giving South Cheyenne true and equitable representation.”  Antonio Serrano of Juntos

Now is the time to voice your support of the Resident Area Resolution.

Please send comments by email to the superintendent’s office at or Darlene.davis@laramie1 or the board chair

Mail written comments to the superintendent at LCSD#1 Administration Building, 2810 House Ave., Cheyenne, WY, 82001. Please put a note on the envelope indicating it’s a comment on the

Adopting a Segment of Crow Creek for Cleanup
New UUCC Ministry!
Adoption of a Segment of Crow Creek for Cleanup
UUCC has adopted for cleanup the segment of Crow Creek that runs through Martin Luther King Park between 19th St. and Lincolnway and Missile Drive and Dey Ave.  Our next cleanup is scheduled for Sunday, June 28 at 7:00 p.m.  We meet in the parking lot south of the softball field off of Ames, near the Habitat Restore.  We generally work just over an hour and fill one large trash bag per person.

Participants are encouraged to wear long pants and long sleeved shirts (the vegetation is knee high and can be pokey) and suitable shoes (Mike and Kathy wear muck boots, but there is plenty of cleanup that does not involve getting wet).  A tool of some sort, such as a hoe or pitchfork, is helpful for snagging trash in the creek.

The city of Cheyenne requires all of those who participate in the cleanup to sign an Assumption of Risk, Waiver & Release form.  Folks are not allowed to participate unless they sign the form.  Mike and Kathy will bring forms for those who wish to participate to the cleanup location on the scheduled date.  Mike and Kathy will also provide trash bags to all participants.

Kids under 14 years of age must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.

Community Events
Family Promise Virtual Box City:
A Night Without a Bed, Evening of September 26th
Our purpose is to build awareness of Family Homelessness by having families build a shelter of their own to sleep in.
In the past, we have built cardboard shelters at the depot and camped outside, this year we are happy to host our first virtual event on Facebook or by word of mouth with friends. Participants will build a fort at their own location, and share their wonderful creations via our Facebook page, where we will also host also a live event. Not only is this a fun family event, but it also provides Family Promise an opportunity to gather funds to help families of our community in need.
This is a save the date for 9/26/2020
If you have students in the Laramie District, they are eligible for free breakfast and lunch. Schools are dispensing meals in the morning and at lunchtime.  This site holds information on the school programs with times and places you can pick-up meals.  There is more information for food banks and other services as well.

This is an anxious time financially, for individuals and organizations alike. If you are able, UUCC values and appreciates your continued support through this time. If you typically put cash or a check in the offering plate on Sunday mornings, please consider mailing that donation to the church, giving via our website, or giving via our mobile giving app.

If your financial situation changes and you need to adjust an automatic deduction, please email for more information.

If you find yourself in need of emergency financial assistance, please email Rev. Hannah at or call/text her at 414-870-1028.
Important! Please Read!

We have been experiencing a growing issue with peanut residue in the building, especially in the library.  Please, do not bring peanut products into the building, and if your little ones enjoy their peanut butter snacks before coming, please be sure their hands are clean before they touch surfaces used by everyone.  We are seeing almost daily allergic reactions, so we ask you to please be diligent. It may be an inconvenience to you, but it can be life-threatening to those who are allergic.
