Orb Weavers and DreamersToday is a day for weaving together the web, joining past to future and catching our hopes and dreams to guide them on our way. Using metaphors of spiders and webs, and wisdom from the Vedic scriptures, today we look at the jewels we might harvest from our own dreams and from deep listening to one another.Rev. Warning about Phishing and Scam EmailsDear friends,We want to warn you about a new round of scam emails attempting to target our congregation. A few days ago, our administrator received a scam email attempting to redirect the minister’s paychecks to a scam account. Since then, we’ve also received multiple alerts from various church leaders regarding emails from a fake “Reverend Elizabeth” email asking them to help out by buying gift cards for an “urgent need” in our community. These emails have come from a couple of different fake email addresses and have slightly different language each time, so if you receive one, we do ask you to report it as spam and to alert our Administrator and the Finance Team so that we can keep track of who is being targeted. Unfortunately, even if their fake addresses get shut down, we expect they may set up a new and similar fake address to continue the scam for some time.
The best way we can stop this from happening is to remember that your church leaders will NEVER ask you to give in a way that goes outside of our church financial systems or asks you to act with urgency without a face-to-face conversation. If you receive an email that seems unusual or you wonder at all about something you’ve been asked to do, please do not reply, but check in with firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com to request a Zoom call, or call the church office and wait for a call in response. We ask that you do not reply to these emails, but forward them on to a staff or Board member whose email address you type into the address bar yourself to assure that it’s delivered correctly. If you have been targeted, please do let us know! These scams work because we are kind and generous people who believe in helping, and they hope you will be too embarrassed to tell us what has happened. It is important for us to hear from you and track these scams to help other churches head them off in the future and to find out where email addresses are being lifted from to tighten our own security measures, so please be in touch if you have gotten an email, and let Rev. Elizabeth or a member of the Bookkeeping Team know how you did or didn’t respond. Thank you, and continue to be cautious and communicative to keep us all safe.
In faith,Rev. Elizabeth Mount

Resting at the Lintel
At the rituals of Samhain, pagan celebrants often speak of the “thinning of the veil” in this Fall celebration when we pause to remember and to celebrate our ancestors. This is a blending of grief and joy, of learning who we might become because of who has been before us.
