Unitarian Universalist
Church of Cheyenne
A community of refuge where all have equal worth and are invited into spiritual exploration as a foundation for:
hope. compassionate service. action.

Love is a Verb

Each Sunday, we gather in worship and center in love, taking time to choose what values will guide us so that our work in the world will be led by our hopes, not our fears. Today, stories of love expressed through our Unitarian and Universalist ancestors will be brought into conversation with our own lives. How do we live in love? How do we express generosity, justice, equity, transformation, interdependence, and pluralism as aspects of our love made real and tangible in the world each day?
Join us to share with one another.

Preacher – Reverend Elizabeth Mount

All are welcome!

Community of congregants,

This month, we will be focusing on acts of Ritual, focusing on the practices we do together each Sunday and throughout the week, how these shape our shared spiritual spaces, the meaning of our traditions, and where they come from. One especially important ritual that we have coming up is the Act of Installation on May 6th at 2pm!

An installation is not just a party (though the party will be a fun time), but a chance for the whole community to affirm their choice of minister and be a part of making this commitment that we will be together for a good long time to come. We might say, we’re promising to be in it for the long haul together. Installation is the ritual act of making promises to one another that when things get hard, we will communicate and come together to solve problems instead of working against one another or seeing each other as the source of the problem. It means that we grant one another the privilege of being in relationship, of choosing to trust one another’s good intentions and give deep weight to each other’s words. It means we are promising to listen with honest care as well as to speak bold truths, and to put our words into action together to shape the future of this congregation and move not only our own lives, but the state of Wyoming and the world toward a path that is more justice-centered, spiritually alive, radically inclusive, deeply loving, and ultimately peaceful.

Last May, you took a vote as a congregation to live into this work and begin it with me as your new minister, and after one year together, I think we have made a good start, so I hope you’ll join us on the 6th to affirm this shared path, to make promises to one another and to make it official that this beautiful place will hold my ministry, that you will be a part of our growth as a people, and that we, together, will create Beloved Community on the high plains of Wyoming with all our glorious and fabulous diversity brought together like the spectrum of a rainbow.

Before I end, I want to also share with you why we picked the imagery of cowboy boots and a rainbow for this ministry and this celebration. There are a lot of pieces to that choice… one is just that the aesthetic makes me joyful, and being our fabulous and joy-filled selves is important and enough. Yet beyond that simple reasoning, I know that a ministry is a balance between the practical and the inspirational, and for me, the sense of having “boots on the ground,” being rooted in place and committed to the practicalities is fundamental to the success of any ministry that’s going to last here, but it cannot be the end of what we do. Beyond those practical boots, lies the mission of this church to build a community of refuge from which to engage in action. There’s the rainbow. It’s a reminder of promise, a bright possibility, a covenant made to find beauty and meaning with one another, not as a promise of reward in the next life, but as what we can already see in one another and make real through the work we are doing here and now. That is what I hope for us, that practicality and beauty will be entwined through all our work together for many years to come. May it be so.

See you on the 6th!

In faith,
Rev. Elizabeth

Living Generously

It’s pledge season again! Letters went out March 16 and should be in your hands by now. We invite you to pledge to the church. Your financial contributions are crucial to all aspects of church life and ministry.

New this year: we are moving to evergreen pledging. This means that unless you opt out, this will be the last pledge form you will see for some time. Please carefully review what you have been pledging, consider the information provided in the letter and your circumstances, and return the form. From there, we will use this number each year unless you tell us otherwise. You may revise your pledge at any time. We do encourage automatic deduction pledging as well, and there are instructions on the website for that.
Didn’t get one? You can find one here.

If you have questions, please contact Camellia El-Antably
