Immigration Justice Coalition needs help

A young woman and her family in our community need help. We have known her for some time.

She is a 20 something young woman who was brought here by undocumented parents as a toddler. She could not get DACA status because she could not adequately document all of the many addresses her parents had or the schools she attended.

She, her parents and a sister are undocumented. But, they have two young brothers (maybe 8 and 10) who are citizens.

She is under threat of deportation and doesn’t feel she can fill out the application form some landlords require. She needs a two bedroom apartment and can pay $700-$800.

This is a good family that many of us know. If you know of any place available, please contact Sandi Gaulke (stgaulke@openvistas.net) or Rodger McDaniel (rmc81448@gmail.com)
Thank you!

Where have all the children gone? Never fear… they’re still here…
I’ve been hearing whispers and comments here and there over the last couple months about not “seeing” children in service. Some of you may remember, but I’d like to remind everyone…. From 9 – noon on Sunday’s this spring – OWL is happening in TWO groups (usually UUCC only has 1 group going at a time). This year… we have 2 groups of youth who began meeting in late January during services. This was the best time for everyone involved but unfortunately meant that the youth would miss a lot of spring services. Never fear… they’re still here… just in class for several hours most every Sunday!!!!

OWL GRADUATION – we are honored to announce the 2019 UUCC OWL class will be honored during a service on April 28, 2019.
Please help us share this time with the youth and families. OWL is a huge commitment and we’ve all really enjoyed the whole process. It’s been amazing!!!

GOODIE/WELCOME BAGS– we are working on some goodie bags to be passed out to visiting/first time youth. The bags have a self-designed magnet with information on how to find out more about our youth programs and some well loved UU themed booklets to help welcome new youth to our program. We’re including a few fun activities and some crayons/craft project to make during service. These bags are meant for kids to take home and keep. We’re hoping to have youth hand them out to new children as they arrive at church. We’re excited to share these goodies bags and some information about us with all our new families.

Busy bags during services – I know our busy bag area has been a little lacking in the last few months. Some people just need something to fidget with to keep their hands busy during quiet times/service. For the last few months we’ve been planning to up our game and provide the youth with more stimulating activities while keeping them engaged in service. Check out some of our new, fun ideas.

Busy bags and Welcoming bags will be stored in Mary’s office during the week.

Social Media – Please be sure to spread the word. We have really been listening to our youth and are trying to move more to the digital age. Most of our Faith Development groups have their own Facebook page moderated by Mary and the Faith Development team. We’re trying to encourage conversations outside of “church” for the kids. Every week we post ideas to engage our youth and families. If you have a chance, stop by the UUCC Faith Development group and become a member. You’ll see all the cool artwork and service projects our youth are doing!!!! (Be assured, we are following strict online safety and safe congregation guidelines concerning social media and youth)
