Dear UUCC Friends –
Due to low attendance, TED Talks are canceled for July and August. We will restart them on the 3rd Wednesday in September, and if attendance resumes, they will continue. Be sure to join us in September and bring a friend!

Black & Blue: a Unitarian Universalist Theology
Rev. Audette Fulbright
The 2016-17 year will be an important year in the life of our congregation. As we look ahead to the future, it’s time to have some in-person conversations with all our members and active friends, so we can best determine what direction to head together – how we will live our mission and sustain our ministry into the next 20 years. Sign up today for a small group “cottage conversation” that will consist of two hours of great questions and conversations.
Click here to let us know when you will be attending! We need 100% participation!
Sunday, August 7th – 12:15 pm – 2:15 pm
Wednesday, August 17th — 6 – 8 pm
Joys and Concerns
Corina Nelson is having her second baby! She is having a home birth and is in need of some easily warmed up vegetarian meals (no cow milk, cheese and yogurt are fine) for after the baby is born. The baby is due Aug. 8, 2016, but meals can be brought to 1414 Cosgriff Ct. or to UUCC on Sundays anytime before or after that date since babies just come when they are ready. Please call or text Jennifer Heater 421-8092.

“ A bodhisattva is someone who has compassion within and who is able to make another person smile or help someone to suffer less. Every one of us is capable of this. When your life is meaningful, happiness becomes a reality.” ~ Thich Nhat Hanh
The UUCC Family Promise rotation in June was another success, thanks to all of the willing volunteers who gave their time. We started the rotation with one family but by day two, a second family was enrolled in the program. Working with the guests is often an exercise in flexibility and also fuels our compassion for others.
During this rotation, we also had the added benefit of both giving shelter to some fellow UU’s from Salt Lake City, who were on their way to volunteer and help serve those living on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. This group, of about 20 teenagers and a few chaperones, stayed at the UUCC two nights. They commented several times how cool it was that our community, and our church participates in a ministry like Family Promise. Be proud that you are a part of this real way to help people in need!
Another development that has taken place over the last few weeks is that the Highlands Methodist Church has requested to work with the UUCC as a “partner” church. This is great news since that means the volunteer pool for us to serve as ‘hosts” has just increased. I am meeting with Lori Kempter and a few of the Highlands church leaders in July to work out some details.
The next Family Promise rotation that we’ll be hosting guests for will be from August 28th – September 4th. In a few more weeks, I’ll start to send out the reminder emails and calendar – I hope you’ll consider signing up for a slot. As always – thank you all for your support in the UUCC Family Promise program. Please let me or Kristi know if you have any questions or ideas to improve.
