“The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, not the kindly smile, nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when you discover that someone else believes in you and is willing to trust you with a friendship.”

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Our new year together begins with great promise and opportunity. Our church is growing, new families with children are joining and the RE program, more than ever needs willing adults to come and serve. Emerson (the UU theologian, not the 2 year old you see dashing from person to person at coffee hour) speaks of the “glory of friendship” and most of us probably envision an adult with whom we are close and share similar interests. That is a good and rewarding friendship, for sure, but I promise that if you decide to volunteer in RE, the friendships that you form with our children will fulfil Emerson’s promise of spiritual inspiration!

Are you wondering how to get involved? An easy way to come and learn about the program, meet people you’ll be working with and see how inviting the curriculum is even for first time volunteers is to come to our teacher training on Saturday, September 7th from 1-3pm. We’ll have some snacks, go over the curriculum, answer questions and the lovely Kate Hartman will even give henna tattoos to those that want one! Call me or grab me at coffee hour if you want more information.

If you are a parent and would like to join the Spiritual Parenting Chalice Circle dinners please join us monthly on the *third Wednesday of each month*, at 6pm in the library. Children’s activities will be provided, and we’ll share a potluck or pizza dinner. Join us for rich conversation and reflection on being a UU parent and raising UU kids. Rev Audette will join us for the first two sessions and I look forward to getting to know you all better and sharing our triumphs and our tribulations – I know that I have plenty of both!

I look forward to seeing familiar faces that I’ve missed over the summer and meeting families new to our church and community. Every child that completes their RE registration will get to make a yoghurt parfait at coffee hour after our Water Service Ingathering – I look forward to seeing your delicious creations!
