“It’s Summertime and the Living Is Easy.” ~George Gershwin
I hope that everyone gets to have the lazy, easy living, wandering and wondering summertime of their dreams with plenty of star-watching, garden-growing and book reading. I realize in the past we’ve done a minimum at the church and in RE over the summer but this summer is going to look a little different. One big change is we are going to offer nursery care through the summer. We will still be doing all ages combined for RE with parents and adults teaching relaxed classes on a subject they feel like sharing. We still have some open slots so if you’ve taken pictures on a neat vacation, have a talent for fly fishing, book binding or some other arcane little delight, please let me know and we’ll make sure that you get a chance to share it with our awesome kids this summer.
Our Summer Camps theme this year is “Peace Camp” and its open for k-5th graders. Camp will be June 17th-21st at the Church, 9:00-12:00. Monday through Thursday we will learn about conflict and creating peace around the world AND learn a camping skill. Thursday evening we will meet at the church and drive out to Vedauwoo to put our camping skills into action! Camp is $50 for the week with plenty of scholarships if anyone should need one. We’d love to have a full camp so please feel free to invite your friends and neighbors! It’s a really fun way to enjoy nature and deepen our Unitarian Universalist principles at the same time.
Maybe you’ve heard me say this, but if you have any interest in teaching RE next year please let me know, we’d love to have you and while all committee and volunteer opportunities are deeply fulfilling and fantastic, let’s not kid ourselves, Religious Education is the most charming and rewarding!
Don’t forget to collect your water from whatever spectacular place you visit this summer, whether it is near or far so we can share our adventures together in the fall!
Thanks for making this another memorable year for me at UUCC,
Sara Burlingame DRE
