I now officially have an entire year as the Director of Lifespan Faith Development under my belt. I think I’m getting the hang of this!
We sent off 2015 with our lovely Christmas Eve service in which our fabulous Children’s Choir surprised everyone with their own fun rendition of “Santa Clause is Coming to Town”. We have quite the talented bunch of kiddo’s, they even choreographed it themselves. We’re now hard at work for a special Offertory performance for the last service in January.
The 9-12th graders will be attending the Mountain Desert Districts MLK Youth summit January 16th-18th. This will be the 6th year of incredibly successful programming ranging from economic justice to GLBTQ bullying to immigration justice to racial equality. MDD has expanded this event to encompass 3 days of growth, learning, activism, and advocacy. Lasting friendships, spiritual and social fulfillment and fun are sure to be had by all!
We are still in the process getting our High School Sunday youth group up and running. The group has chosen a curriculum of study for the next few months and we are now only missing one thing: TEACHERS! This self-led, group of youth is ready and in need of your guidance as youth leaders. It is only a one or two Sunday a month commitment. Contact Ms. Marcie if you are interested in joining this wonderful program.
Our Whole Lives Sexuality education for our 7th and 8th graders will begin Sunday, January 13th. If you have not yet signed up your child, please contact me ASAP as a parent orientation MUST be attended in order for your child to participate.
The theme of the month is “Virtue: How to be good”. Our Children’s Chapel for the month will be taking a closer look at not just the “how” but the “why” and what that means within our congregation. We will discuss questions like “Why do we not run in our church building?” and brainstorm ways we can participate in services on Sunday. We will talk about our covenant and how it is not just a set of rules, but promises to each other so that we may take care of one another. We hope that congregant members will also keep this in their hearts when helping our children remember these promises.
Thank you all for making my first year here such a great one. Here’s to another year of growth, love and understanding. Cheers!
