nursingBeginning in 2015, the President signed 2 Proclamations creating January as National Stalking Awareness Month and National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. He bolstered many provisions to expand safeguards against cyberstalking and protection for immigrants that are victims of stalking. It improves the ability of healthcare workers, airline flight crews, and other professionals to be able to better identify and provide assistance to trafficking victims. It strengthens and supports the development of new tools to prevent response to this crime. This adds up to more than 10 million men and women each year, with 2 million women raped and 7 million men and women stalked each year in the United States, averaging 20 people per minute becoming victims of physical violence by their intimate partner.  Wyoming is one of 13 states that has Civil Stalking Laws, and one of 15 states that has Stalking Orders of Protection.  In other states, this is included under Domestic Violence Orders of Protection. Besides the initial violation of the person during that time, there is frequently long lasting effects, such as anxiety, insomnia, social dysfunction, and severe depression. They often fear not knowing what will happen next, can fear the stalking will never end, can lose time from work, and/or they might feel compelled to move. Needless to say, this creates a huge impact on individuals and society in general, but a lot of it goes unnoticed on the surface. On the surface are the key words here. It is frequently not talked about, and assumed life gets back to normal. On The Surface. Sunday January 10th I will have a table at coffee hour with more information regarding this, including the use of technology to stalk, and I have invited someone from Safehouse to join me (I don’t have confirmation yet). Please stop by! Also, below are references you may check out on your own.
