FAMILY PROMISE CHEYENNE  (FPC)

The Cheyenne Interfaith Hospitality Network has recently changed their name. They are now Family Promise Cheyenne (FPC). This brings our local network into line with the national organization, "Family Promise".

The Family Promise Cheyenne, an Interfaith Hospitality Network, offers compassionate care to homeless families, helping to alleviate some of the trauma of homelessness. FPC provides a caring, dignified environment of overnight housing, evening meals, and daytime services through the faith based community network. Our church is one of eight host churches in Cheyenne. UUCC hosts families in the network for one week on a rotating schedule. We need volunteers throughout our host week to help with various duties such as providing transportation, cooking evening meals, overnight and evening hosts, or staying with the families when they are in our church.

Our next rotation will be the week of September 5th to September 12th. Please check the FPC board in the Social Hall to volunteer. Presently there are no families in the system, but as you all know this may change between now and September 5th.

Two training sessions are available for anyone interested in learning more about the effects of poverty or the FPC program. We highly recommend "Bridges Out Of Poverty" seminar scheduled for September 14th from 9am to 5pm at LCCC. There is a $29 fee for this seminar (lunch is included). Tuition assistance is available through UUCC FPC. We also recommend an Interfaith Hospitality Network training session to be held at Frontier United Methodist Church on September 25th from 1pm to 3pm - there is no charge for this training.

We are still in the process of updating the host and guest guidelines. If you have any suggestions, concerns, or ideas you would like to have considered, please share them with one of the co-coordinators. Also, please take a moment and review the suggested menus for each evening meal and let us know your thoughts or suggestions. Our guest families have access to the YMCA pool and most do not have swimsuits. We welcome any donation of swimsuits of all sizes.

THANKS! Feel free to contact co-coordinators with questions or suggestions:

Thank you to the following people who helped make the August 21, COMEA Shelter dinner a success.  We had a lot of clients this month, so it’s always nice to know that they received a good home cook meal.  We would also like to thank Wal-Mart for donating fried chicken and King Soopers for donating toward the cost of chicken this month.

Special Service Offering

Once a month, UUCC donates the Sunday offering to a community organization that addresses, treats, or works to correct social issues.

Put Faith into Action

In the United States alone, more than 12 million children one out of every six live in poverty. The Women Build Program of Habitat for Humanity is giving women the opportunity to put their faith into action by building a home for a local family in need. Habitat for Humanity of Laramie County has partnered with over 75 hard working women to set into motion the first ever Women Build project in Laramie County. Women from all walks of life and of all skill levels will pick up hammers and power tools to help a local family in need build their home. We appreciate your prayers for our work. Volunteers, sponsorships, and donations are still needed. Please contact info@cheyennehfh.org for more on this exciting project!
