Thank you to all of the volunteers for the month of May! We served over 80 men, women, and children a dinner of Chicken, Baked Potatoes, Broccoli, Salad and Fruit on the 18th.

Some of you may wonder, who are we helping with this service? People become homeless for a number of reasons, mental illness and addiction are at the top of the list; affordable housing, day care and unemployment follow. The COMEA offers a program tailored for each individual and family that comes to them for help.

“This flexibility allows us to meet the individual where he/she is and to eliminate barriers that are unique but equally problematic. By eliminated the barriers, we create opportunity for those who are sincere about changing their situation and are willing to give what it takes to become self-sufficient.” ~COMEA website

We will be serving dinner this month on the 15th.

You may be asking yourself, “How do I get involved in this great service to others?”

It is as simple as this:

  • You are welcome to sign-up at the church at clipboard corner or you can sign up online at:
  • While out grocery shopping the week of the dinner pick up the items that you signed up for and on your way home swing by the shelter and drop off your items. You can drop of your uncooked food at the COMEA Shelter any time starting Wednesday the 12th. And/Or
  • You can come help cook from 3 – 5 on Saturday. And/Or
  • The best part is serving the food! That is just for an hour on Saturday evening from 5:30-6:30pm. And you are encouraged to then stay, make a new friend and share a meal with them.

If you are concerned about the financial commitments, the church has set aside some money in the budget for our COMEA shelter efforts. Simply sign up, keep your receipts and submit them to the church administrator for reimbursement.

Please feel free to contact Brenda Lyday at: / 632-4146 or Grace McDuffie at: / 630-9595 if you have questions or need more information.
